Galaxy Round, just around the corner

The first curved screen smartphone is arriving. It is called Galaxy Round and it should be the year’s revelation due to the brand new curved touchscreen technology.  Although they did not specify when exactly the smartphone will be released, it will happen via SK Telecom in South Korea in the near future. This is proof that Samsung is starting to show some concern about their devices’ appearances and style.

This is an opening step to a new type of smartphones. The curved screens reign is just beginning. For the time being, they will only impress by adding a special style and appearance to the devices. They also say that the concave curve will improve the sliding motion, but that remains to be seen. As I was saying, Samsung really put their efforts in this phone, and not only on the inside, but the outside as well. Besides the screen, the curved edges and the leathered back give it a particular smoothness.

On the inside, it is to find a Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset worked by 3 GB of RAM and 32GB internal memory, with microSD slot, for cards up to 64GB. It will run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and a lot of useful preinstalled applications such as image/video editor, document reader/editor, Google Search/Mail, Maps etc. The primary back side camera of 13MP (4128 x 3096 pixels) has auto-focus and LED flash. So back to the curved screen, it will be a 5.70-inch super flexible AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a 16M colors panel, 1080x1920p pixels. It is said that the phone will be equipped with sensors and suited applications so that it will be very interactive to touch and position. Rumors say that something called the ‘roll effect’ will be implemented, a feature that allows the user to reach certain menus and panels just by moving the phone towers an axis (like left, right etc.). And that is very interesting news about this phone.

Galaxy Round is very close to Galaxy Note 3 in terms of performances and that is very cool for a smaller device, being a smartphone. Easy to handle thanks to the relative small size (151.1 x 79.6 x 7.9 mm-5.95 x 3.13 x 0.31 inch) and weight (154 g (5.43 oz)), yet pretty expensive ($1199.99 according to welectronics.com), I expect not to be disappointed at all by Samsung this time either.
