Enjoy turn-by-turn navigation with MapFactor GPS Navigation Maps
Whether you’re looking for social networking opportunities, or fitness, finding the best restaurants in your area or getting ideas for your new meal, getting rid of the fear of dark or simplifying the way you use your Android device, be sure that there is an app for everything! Oh, let’s not forget about the turn-by-turn navigation which is easier than ever these days.
MapFactor is a classic Android turn-by-turn navigation app that cannot disappoint you. I actually like the fact that you are looking for a replacement to Google Maps (it was about time to do that) and this might be just what you need!
MapFactor GPS Navigation Maps downloads and installs the map files to your SD card so you can use it offline if you need to. Then, it uses Off StreetMap data which has support for a lot of countries around the world. Some of the key features of this app are voice guidance, downloadable maps, unlimited number of waypoints for your routes, 2D/3D mode in order to enjoy a more realistic visual maps display, day/night modes with colour switching schemes for day or night time driving, as well as a very generous collection of Points of Interest.
Even more, don’t forget that you are getting postcodes and free GPS maps from OpenStreetMaps. These free maps and postcodes are installed on your device or SD card so you don’t have to be dependent on the Internet connection any longer. And trust me when I say that there is no space for error as long as the maps are updated every month for free. If you want even more, there are also optional TomTom GPS navigation maps and postcodes available, but to be honest, I don’t find them as being at all necessary. OpenStreetMaps is an incredibly reliable source, so you cannot find something better somewhere else!
As for the Version 2 of MapFactor Navigator, it gets you smooth map movement, faster zoom, 3D acceleration in Settings/Advanced/Map renderer/, as well as improved multi-language search.
I also have to tell you that MapFactor Navigator is not as polished as Google Maps, but many like it better this way. And even though some might say that navigating around the app can be a little clunky and the lack of a “home” button to send you back to the main menu is cumbersome at times, keep in mind that the map data and the app itself are totally free.
