CES 2014: Neptune Pine – The Smartwatch That Can Replace Your Phone
We are all used to see every new smartwatch released on the market as a potential companion device and nothing more. Despite of the fact that this means using your smartphone less the usual, that’s pretty much all that they can do as long as not even the most advanced smartwatches can replace your phone. Or, at least this is what we were convinced of up to now! A device known as Neptun Pine that has just been revealed at CES 2014 proved us that we are wrong, so here we want to present you one of the most intriguing smartwatch models ever created.
Neptune Pine measures no less than 66 x 53.5 x 14.2 mm with a weight of 60.8 g, while its strap adds another 35.4 g to the initial weight that we have told you about. We are generally used to see smartwatches’ screens in the 1.2-in to 1.6-in range, but this model that we have here comes with a surprising 2.4-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen having a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels.
Why wearing such a gigantic smartwatch on your wrist? Although it might look strange and feel pretty uncomfortable, it gives you the possibility to use a full-size virtual QWERTY keyboard, not to mention that Neptune Pine also comes equipped with an impressive set of other specs such as a 1.2-GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor or a VGA camera which is ideal for video calls. As for the software side, it features Android Jelly Bean and we hope to find out about a possible update too.
Having all the functions of a smartphone, including phone calls, texts, emails and even internet access, we were interested about its compatibility as well and we must tell you that we like what we have discovered. As our source confirms, Neptune presents its smartwatch as being compatible with 80 percent of worldwide mobile carriers, including AT&T, Orange, or T-Mobile.
And although Neptune Pine is set for a March release, we can already tell you that the 16GB edition will be avialble for $335, while the 32GB one will cost $395.
