New Android Platform Statistics for 2014
Google has recently released the new Android platform statistics for 2014 and we must tell you from the start that you shouldn’t expect seeing any major changes. Things have went just as previously predicted as long as we all want a version as recent as possible. Who isn’t dreaming of enjoying the latest KitKat enhancements and changes such as a new full-screen mode, improved closed captioning support, new photo editing options such as advanced cropping, new filter effects, and adjustments to color and contrast, color emoji support, support for Square credit card reader, enhanced support for NFC Host Card Emulation, a stronger security and much more?
So, there is no surprise that the latest KitKat version along with the popular Jelly Bean continue their rise, while the previous Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich one tend to be replaced.
Jelly Bean Dominance
To be more precise, the Jelly Bean version (from 4.1 to 4.3) is currently present on a total of no less than 59.1 percent of the active Android handsets that checked-in Google Play. And just as we have told you, Android 4.2 is also on the rise with its 16.3 percent, the same as the 4.3 version which currently has 8.9 percent and KitKat with a 1.8 percent of handsets. But don’t be fooled by this small number; as this Android Platform Statistics for 2014 tries to show us, KitKat has just started to grow.
Previous versions
Things are not as great for all the other previous version. For example, the Android 4.0 version is now present on no more than 16.1 percent of devices, not to mention the Android 4.1 one which can be found on just 35.5 percent. As for Android 2.2 (Froyo), as our source also confirms it represents just 1.3 percent, while Gingerbread has 20.0% and Honeycomb no more than 0.1 percent.
