Android TV Coming as a Media Platform for your TV

If you have always imagined that Google’s plans for the TV are only focused on its Chromecast streaming stick, we can only tell you that it’s time to think again. Google is currently working on a new media platform presented as Android TV that is supposed to give you easier access to music, movies, TV shows, and more from your television screen. “Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform,” has mentioned Google, this time being “all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction.”

Android’s TV Content and Utility

It is true that we have first heard about this Android TV idea way back in October, but only now we know for sure that it’s going to become real. Moreover, we can already tell you that the Android TV interface looks a lot like Microsoft’s Xbox Live, also coming with support for third-party apps including Netflix, Hulu, Sonzga, Pandora, Vevo and YouTube.

And the best part is that we can also talk about support for native Google services like Hangouts, not to mention that there’s a big chance to find game integration as well.

So, Android TV seems to offer the same content as other providers and borrows some utility from Fire TV, but there’s one aspect that makes the difference. Android TV will be open source, so we have a completely new story this time.

Will Google build its own Device for the Android TV software?

At this point, we must be honest and tell you that we have no idea if Google will build its own device to showcase the Android TV software or if it will need the help of its hardware partners like it has happened with Google TV. We’ll just have to wait and see.
