HTC One E8 and Desire 616 Reached the Indian Market
HTC has just revealed two new smartphones: HTC One E8 and Desire 616 for the Indian market. The first one is a version of the company’s popular One M8, so there is no surprise that it has a price of no less than ₹34,990 ($580). As for the second HTC device, Desire 616, is nothing elase than a mid-range model that can be yours for a modest price of no more than ₹16,900 ($280).
Cloer Look at HTC One E8
Let’s start by telling you that this HTC One (E8) packs a 5-inch 1080p (441ppi) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and gets the power from a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor paired with Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM. In terms of internal memory, things don’t look at all bad 16GB of internal storage, especially if we take in consideration the fact that this number can be further expanded up to no less than 128GB by simply using a microSD card.
But HTC had decided to leave behind that Duo Camera from the One (M8) in favor of a 13-megapixel rear camera. HTC One (M8) was supposed to be one of the most interesting phone camera we’ve seen, its rear setup using not one, but actually two sensors and two lenses, the second one being able to give the handset depth data about the scene you’re shooting.
In theory, this Duo camera should offer us great results, but there are some lacking abilities that turned the story into something completely opposite. In the first place, this is the first time HTC has released a phone with this feature and the UFocus effect is not at all well implemented; in the second place, the secondary depth camera is Omnivision OV2722, a sensor that has been also used in the front-facing camera of the previous HTC One. Sadly, we have to admit that this Omnivision sensor doesn’t match the UltraPixel sensor as long as its focal length is different, its resolution is different, not to mention the dissonances when it comes to its sensor size (1/5.8-inch in the Omnivision to 1/3-inch in the UltraPixel one).
An UltraPixel sensor would have been much more indicated, but such a choice is not only much more bigger than the Omnivision one, but also more expensive, so the company’s choice is some sort of a compromise that didn’t offered the expected results.
Howered, returing to this HTC One E8version, the manufacturer has maintained the same 5-megapixel snapper, also offering us a 2,600mAh battery that the company claims as being capable to offer 20 hours of talk time and no less than 496 hours on standby mode. As for its connectivity options, this device comes with LTE support, Wi-Fi, dual nano-SIM card slot, also running on the latest version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat along with HTC’s latest Sense 6.0 UI.
At this price point and with such specs, the One (E8) could be called a real competitor for Samsung Galaxy S5 as long as both these handsets have a 1080p display, 2GB of RAM and both run on Android KitKat, but the processor choices are different, just as Galaxy S5 also has better rear camera compared to the One (E8) — 16-megapixel and not 13-megapixel, to be more precise.

Closer Look at HTC Desire 616
Talking of technical specifications, let’s take a closer look to what Desire 616 can offer us too. We have told you from the start that we are not talking about a high-end device, but we also want to be clear about the fact that it is decent enough given its small price.
So, what do you think about this HTC Desire device equipped with 5-inch 720p display and a 1.7GHz MediaTek’s “true” MT6592 octa-core chipset, paired with Mali-450MP4 GPU? We have told you that it is worth of our consideration. Although it only has 1GB of RAM and no more than 4GB of internal storage, don’t forget that this number can be further expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.
The usual connectivity options include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, HTC Desire 616 running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. And we like that it packs both an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, so you still have the chance to capture the special moments spend with family and friend, also enjoying a decent 2,000mAh battery.
So, we think that it could be considered an ideal choice for no more than $280!
