CES 2014: Magellan RoadMate 5430T-LM To Come With Android
Magellan has just showed off its latest GPS navigation unit known as RoadMate 5430T-LM at CES and we must tell you from the start that there is something different about it. We are referring to the fact that this model will come with Android instead of the Magellan’s own custom platform, as we are used too. Despite of the fact that Magellan hasn’t mentioned which version of Android is powering this device, we can only say that it actually doesn’t matter so much for all Android fans out there. We can assure you that Magellan’s GPS interface covers the Android interface that you are used to and this is more than enough.
Among its specs we want to mention a large 5″ capacitive touchscreen and we appreciate that the company has made such a choice that hasn’t been used on many other GPS devices before. For those who were expecting to receive a simple resistive touchscreen which can be sometimes difficult to press while driving, that’s simply not the case.
Magellan RoadMate 5430T-LM running on Android will be very responsive and easy to use, not to mention that it also comes with lifetime map updates and free traffic. This personal navigation device has indeed the ability to monitor traffic but is this enough to determine you forget about the possibility of using your current smartphone with a free copy of Google Maps included?
No GPS unit could enjoy the same spotlight as other modern smartphones and Google Maps and it is more than probably for this Magellan RoadMate 5430T-LM model not to be the ideal solution that you are looking for. But we still have to admit that at a price of no more than $180 is something that you should keep an eye on when it comes to market in just a few months. And as our source stated, we are referring to an US and Canada release, so we’ll keep you updated about this model that has Android at its heart, so that anyone interested could buy it.
