Enable Fingerprint Icon on your Galaxy S10 Plus

After a few years lurking in darkness, the ultrasonic fingerprint sensors are ready to enjoy the spot light. The technology is built into Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S10 Plus, ready to be securing millions of thumbprints by the year’s end. The in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner must be one of the coolest features in the Galaxy S10 Plus. It’s fast and pretty accurate and it was a thrill to discover it.

Qualcomm’s 3D in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is based on what was previously known as Sense ID. Rather than existing photographic or capacitive-based fingerprint scanners, these ultrasonic fingerprint scanners make use of very high-frequency ultrasonic sound. These waves are used to map out the details of the user’s fingerprint.

Even more, the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner technology allows the fingerprint scanner to operate through thin materials, such as glass, aluminum, or plastic. And I love that there’s no need to swipe, just touch the finger to the sensor like the top of the line capacitive fingerprint scanners.

Not a fan of it? Well, I know where the issue comes from this time. I bet that the problem with in-display fingerprint scanners is that it’s so easy to miss it. This happens especially when the display is off. In such cases, the best option is to enable the Fingerprint scanner icon. This will make you enjoy the experience as you should.

Make the icon visible and forget about the problem

The Galaxy S10 Plus makes the icon visible when you tap on the S10 Plus phone display, even when the screen is off. To switch it On, from a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen. Up next, navigate to Settings > Biometrics and security > Fingerprints, and toggle the switch for the option that says Show icon when the screen is off.

Once you’ve memorized its location, you are free to toggle it off. Now, in order to unlock your phone, tap once on the screen and press your thumb against the screen.
