How to Remove Work Profile in Android

Trying to remove the work container and stop company control on your phone? This guide shows fast, safe ways to delete the profile from Settings or your MDM app. Follow the steps that match your device.

Before you start

  • Charge your phone above 30% and connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Know your screen lock; you’ll confirm it.
  • Removing the profile deletes only work apps and data, not personal content.

Method 1: Remove via Settings (Pixel/stock Android 14-15)

  • Open Settings > Accounts (or Passwords & accounts).
  • Tap Work profile or Work tab.
  • Tap Remove work profile > Delete.
  • Confirm with PIN/pattern/password and wait for cleanup.

Method 2: Samsung One UI (Android 14-15)

  • Go to Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts.
  • Tap Work profile.
  • Tap Remove work profile > Remove.
  • Confirm and let the device finish removing work apps and policies.

Method 3: Xiaomi HyperOS / MIUI

  • Settings > Accounts & sync (or Users & accounts).
  • Select Work profile or the managed work account.
  • Tap Remove account or Remove work profile > Confirm.

Method 4: OnePlus OxygenOS / OPPO ColorOS

  • Settings > Users & accounts (or Passwords & accounts).
  • Tap Work profile or managed work account.
  • Choose Remove work profile (or Remove account) > Confirm.

Method 5: Remove via your MDM app (Intune, Workspace ONE, Knox Manage, etc.)

  • Open the company/MDM app (e.g., Company Portal, Intelligent Hub, Knox Manage).
  • Sign in if required > Devices.
  • Select your phone > Remove device or Remove management.
  • Approve prompts; the app will unenroll and delete the work profile.
  • Uninstall the MDM app if it remains.

Method 6: If removal is blocked by policy

  • Message says your admin prevents removal.
  • Contact IT to retire the device from management or approve profile deletion.
  • For fully managed or COBO devices, IT may need to factory reset or release the device first.

Verify removal

  • Work apps and the briefcase badge should be gone.
  • In Settings > Accounts, no Work profile section should appear.
  • Play Store should show only personal apps.

Why this works

Android’s work profile separates corporate data in a managed container. Removing it unenrolls the device and wipes only work apps, configs, and keys, leaving personal photos, messages, and apps intact.

FAQs

Will I lose personal photos or messages?
No. Only work container data and managed apps are deleted.

I don’t see Remove work profile—only a work account. What do I do?
Remove the work account itself; on some skins this triggers profile deletion.

Company Portal says Not compliant. Should I fix it first?
Not necessary if you’re removing management. Choose Remove device instead.

What if this is a company-owned phone?
It may be fully managed. Only IT can remove management, and a factory reset might be required.

How long does it take?
Usually 1–5 minutes. Large profiles can take longer while the device cleans up policies and certificates.

Do I need to reboot?
Not required, but a restart can clear leftover badges or notifications.
