Make OnePlus 5 camera less disappointing with OnePlus Camera M

People are often confused about cameras on OnePlus devices and they tend to complain about the quality of photos the OnePlus 5. The handset that I am telling you about offers excellent value for money, but to achieve that, the manufacturer is forced to make a few compromises on some features and this includes the camera department.

You can though make your OnePlus 5 camera less disappointing with the help of OnePlus Camera M. This is an aftermarket modification (listed on XDA-Developers) that make wonders as it can increase JPEG quality to 100, sharpness adapted before picture been processing, not to mention the chance of choosing front camera sharpness in Settings.

If you want to try it out, I don’t want to be the one ruining all the fun, but I must tell you that OnePlus Camera M has to be installed using Magisk. Yes, this mod comes with its own set of limitations. As many of you know, this is an app available only for rooted smartphones running an AOSP-based ROM, such as OmniROM. Therefore, there is no other way but to tinker with your unit’s firmware to run Camera M – and that’s risky in case of being a newbie.

And besides that, you must also uninstall any Camera app updates via the Google Play Store as long as Camera M requires the original version of OnePlus Camera. For that, enter into Settings > Apps > OnePlus Camera and disable the app. This will uninstall all the updates and then, you can re-enable it to restore the original version. Next, go to Storage and Clear data.

Once all that’s done, you can finally install the Magisk Module linked in the detailed procedure from below, so let’s proceed:

Operation:

  1. Take the latest Magisk on your device;
  2. Launch the Magisk Manager app on your phone;
  3. Find your way to the Modules section from the side-drawer;
  4. Up next, tap on the floating + button;
  5. Navigate to the downloaded Camera M zip file and long-press it;
  6. Now, you can tap Open on the top-right corner to begin the installation;
  7. After that, keep the changes and reboot your OnePlus 5.
