More Production Issues with the Galaxy S5

At the beginning of the month, news regarding a fire at Samsung’s partner factory raised concerns about Galaxy’s S5 production. The Korean company has immediately stated that the fire would not cause a delay in its production, but it seems that a new factor that might affect Galaxy’s S5 manufacturing has just been discovered. To be more precise, there are reports saying that Samsung is facing production issues with Galaxy’s 16 MP ISOCELL camera sensor.

The problem might affect overall volume of the device in time

The issue is not about the sensor itself, but the coating process for the lens module isn’t what the company expected. And the final results is far from what we’d want when buying a Galaxy S5 smartphone; we are talking about a low yield for the sensor which might not seem such a big problem for the moment, but in time will affect overall volume of the device.

So, due to these production problems, Samsung will only have around 4-5 million Galaxy S5 units available at launch and not 5-7 million handsets as the company has previously anticipated. But what about the fact that Samsung is said to be preparing its Galaxy S5 before April 5th in South Korea? Will the manufacturer have enough smartphones available in time or the situation is going to be as confusing as the one that Sony’s Xperia Z2 is currently experiencing?

Sony’s Xperia Z2 Similar Situation

For those of you who don’t know, the pre-orders for the handset have been removed on regional websites due to some supplier issues. These problems have determined Sony to initially launch its Sony Xperia Z2 in very small quantities and even to change the price: we have seen its price rising  from €679 up to €599 in just a couple of days in Germany and no one wants to see that for Samsung’s Galaxy S5, that’s for sure.
