Sony Sirius Flagship – Specs, Features And More

Along with the most awaited event in the technology world and namely CES 2014, Sony unveiled only Z1 mini versions, smaller versions bearing the names of flagship models. However, it appears that the company might be working at new next-generation devices, scheduled for debut later this year. As rumors have suggested, it is likely to see some Xperia version, codenamed as Sony Sirius (the 2014 flagship smartphone) and Sony Castor (the new tablet) scheduled to arrive at this year’s MWC.

In what concerns the future Sony Sirius, the device will bring a 5.2-inch display powered by a 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset processor that is expected to increase the level of performance. As you can see, the processor is a little bit more powerful than the 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 800 model seen on other Android devices. In the same time, Sony’s flagship will have Verizon support.

So far, Sony Sirius has been mentioned in various reports and rumors, however, the details were a little bit different. Back in the past, the reports suggested that the device would arrive at CES 2014, something that did not happen. In the same time, the phone was supposed to include the new Snapdragon 805 CPU and a 5.2-inch display having a resolution of 2560 x 1440. From all these mentioned details, the device will bring only a 2.3 GHz 800 Snapdragon processor, but the resolution will be smaller, on the same 5.2-inch display.

The Snapdragon 805 CPU is planned to power late 2014 devices, which means that Sony plans to reveal another flagship by the end of this year in order to compete with similar devices from Samsung, HTC and other manufacturers. Therefore, it is a little bit too audacious to see a Sony Xperia device equipped with such processor in the first half of 2014.

On the other hand, the Sony Castor tablet is not likely to become Sony’s next-generation flagship tablet. What we know from sure is the fact that the tablet will be revealed at this year’s MWC alongside with Sirius. As @evleaks suggested, the device will pack the same 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, and it will be available only in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE options.

Once we will find out more, we will keep you posted. However, until the MWC event takes place, when we will see clearly what Sony plans to unveil, keep in mind that the above-mentioned details are only rumors.
