Kyocera Hydro Edge – water-resistant JB phone available at Sprint and Boost
A new water-resistant smartphone from Kyocera arrives at Sprint and Boost Mobile with really impressive offers: the Hydro Edge will be released at Sprint starting July 19 for 20$ on a two-year agreement after a $50 rebate, and for $150 as a prepaid device, on Boost Mobile, from July 23rd. The smartphone looks similar to the Hydro Xtrm and can be submerged in more than 3 feet water, for up to half an hour. The dimensions are of 4.90 x 2.5 x 0.39 inches and it weights 128 grams. It has a 4 inch display and it is also dust proof. The Hydro Edge uses the Smart Sonic Reciever technology, which allows for audio to be heard using a ceramic transducer transmitting vibrations through the screen via cartilage around the ear.
The device comes with a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage. It features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and features a 5MP camera, our source states. Other specs include a multi-touch touchscreen made of scratch-resistant glass, a 1600 mAh battery, a MicroSD card slot, Voice dialing, Voice commands and Voice recording. As you can see, it is a mid-level JB based smartphone but it has its advantages so I guess you’ll consider it when you decide to buy a handset.
Of course, if you want a waterproof smartphone and you are not on a budget, you can always purchase the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, which costs £530 at Carphone Warehouse. Even if the price is much higher, you’ll also get a 5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, a 1.9GHz quad-core Krait 300 processor, Adreno 320 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Galaxy S4 Active also has an 8MP camera, so it’s worth the money.
