CES 2014: ASUS PadFone Mini Official
Do you remember the ASUS Padfone Mini model that we have talked about back in December? We have admitted from the start that it is an amazing product that successfully manages to combines the efficiency of a regular smartphone with the screen of a modern tablet. But this time, ASUS has revealed a new PadFone mini at CES 2014, which doesn’t only look different, but also has different specs. The 7-inch touchscreen that has a 1,280x800ppixel resolution, as well as the dual SIM support and the 8 megapixel rear camera might be similar to the ones found on the previous Taiwan model, but wait to see the rest.
ASUS PadFone mini comes with a 4-inch IPS+ display with an 800×480-pixel resolution instead of the 4.3-inch 960×540 display of the first version, as well as a new 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor (and not a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 400 one). In addition to that, it has 1 of RAM and 8GB of internal storage space and if you feel like you’ll need much more space than that, memory can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card slot. As for its weight, this new ASUS PadFone mini weighs 0.82 pounds and lets you choose between five different colors options: red, black, white, blue, and yellow.
Despite of the fact that ASUS PadFone mini version features Android 4.3, the company has already informed us that this one revealed at the CES 2014 will be soon be updated to the more recent Android 4.4 OS. And as our source reminds us, don’t forget that besides running Android, this unit also sports Asus’ new user interface known as “ZenUI,” that features coordinated color themes, as well as redesigned icons and menus.
But ASUS has yet to release pricing and availability information and we really hope that it will include an US release as well and not as the original PadFone two-in-one smartphone/tablet that is available only in Europe and Asia. We can only keep our fingers crossed for this model to find its way to our shores and we promise you that we’ll be back with more details. Meanwhile we have more CES surprises for you!
