Disable Fingerprint Gestures on your Galaxy S9
Samsung’s Galaxy S9 is an amazing handset out of the box, but there’s something to be said about tweaking and customizing how it works and how you can get the most out of it. All these are a must if you want to get the best. This time, I have to remind you that Samsung has introduced gestures for the fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S9 to be in line with other companies, yet the result is far from the desired one.
With the fingerprint sensor finally being in an easier-to-reach location, as users of previous models repeatedly asked, it makes sense to use it as a pseudo-touchpad. Right now, the Galaxy S9 model only supports two gestures, but two it’s better than nothing. This new feature has its advantages, especially on such a tall device, so enabling the feature in Settings > Advanced features > Finger sensor gestures makes perfect sense to me and other users.
To view more settings, tap on the text instead of the button used to enable the feature. There you can easily enable a swipe down to show the notification shade, or a swipe up to launch Samsung Pay, yet there is no ideal device. The feature that we are talking about is reportedly the cause behind the fingerprint scanner issues.
It is rather annoying to be talking about the “Fingerprint sensor has stopped working” error so soon and the compromise of disabling Fingerprint gestures might come as a disappointment. I know how it feels too, yet don’t get mad.
You should actually worry not since this is not permanent. I am sure that Samsung will soon fix the issue through a software update, so you can head back to the same menu and enable fingerprint gestures later on.
Disable Fingerprint gestures:
- From the home screen of your Galaxy S9, head over to Settings;
- Find your way into Advanced features;
- Scroll down to the menu to find Finger sensor gestures and make sure to disable it;
- Reboot your device by pressing down the Power button;
- Then, you can check to see if the issue has been resolved.
