Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 to be Released in Taiwan, in April
Although we still have no idea if any of the Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 models will ever be seen on the US market, we still have other great news for you. At least these Android smartphones are about to be released in Taiwan somewhere around April. As a refresher, both Zenfone 5 and 6 were first unveiled at CES last month coming as a part of a smartphone series that offers a choice of screen sizes actually ranging from 4 to 6 inches, so there is an Asus Zenfone 4 also, but this one won’t be reaching the Taiwanese market as its two bigger brothers. And we must tell you from the start that these are more than low-end Android devices, but actually decent ones, as you can find that by yourself:
Asus ZenFone 5
The first smartphone ready to come in Taiwan features a bright 720p 5-inch IPS panel, while the power is provided by a 2GHz dual-core Z2580 chip. If you remember, this is none other than the first chip seen in the Lenovo K900 released a year ago, but still capable enough to offer a good performance for a modestly priced phone (around $149, but we cannot guarantee that this is the same price for Taiwan too).
As for its 8-megapixel PixelMaster main camera, Asus ZenFone 5 comes not only with image stabilization, but also with the exclusive ASUS PixelMaster technology which lets you capture digital photographs that are supposed to match those snapped by other dedicated digital cameras.
Asus Zenfone 6
Here we have the largest device from the new Zenfone line-up thanks to its 6-inch screen. We must admit from the start that the phone has a 720p display, instead of a Full HD one, like most of you might be expecting. In terms of power, we are once again talking about an Intel Atom processor and it is actually the same version that we have just told you about in the Zenfone 5 (a dual-core Z2580 chip).
But don’t forget that we can find here a better camera, a 13-megapixel shooter to be more precise instead of an 8-megapixel one, also coming along with a 2-megapixel front camera able to offer provides high-quality video chat for staying in touch with your loved ones. One if its most interesting software features of this handset that we have here is its ability to downgrade the camera’s resolution in order to offer us the best possible low-light performance and let’s face it: we weren’t expecting anything like that from a phone priced at no more than $199.
Finally, both ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6 are available in several different color choices: Charcoal Black, Cherry Red, Champagne Gold, or Pearl White, so that everyone could find something to like.
Enhanced ASUS apps for Android
In case you don’t know, both these handsets feature the ZenUI user interface from Asus with free open messaging using the Omlet Open Messaging Platform. And even better than that, these ZenFone devices seem to know their potential users better than you might be first expecting, also coming with enhanced ASUS apps for Android, as our source confirms.
