How to Restore Landscape Mode on Android Marshmallow
As you probably discovered up to now, the landscape mode is nowhere to be found on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and I bet that you don’t like the idea. This landscape mode can be useful in certain circumstances, for example, if you use your phone as a navigation unit or a car stereo interface and mount it horizontally in your car dash.
I know that you miss all these, but don’t you imagine that the story ends here. In fact, this is only the beginning as long as you can use this tutorial in order to restore it.
Yes, you have the possibility to enable landscape mode for the home screen and lockscreen on your phone, even if it has root access or not.
Just use these steps:
Restore Landscape Mode on Android Marshmallow (if your phone has root access):
- First of all, you need a root-enabled file browser like Build Prop Editor that can be taken from here;
- Install it;
- Open Build Prop Editor;
- Then, tap edit button (pencil icon) that can be found at the bottom of the screen;
- This will open buid.prop file, so it’s time to scroll down to it;
- Now, enter the below two lines: log.tag.launcher_force_rotate=VERBOSE
lockscreen.rot_override=true - Save the file and restart your Android phone;
- You should now have both home and lockscreen rotation, with the landscape view arranging itself relatively neatly.
If you do not have root access on your phone, then be sure of the fact that I have a solution for you as well:
Restore Landscape Mode on Android Marshmallow (if your phone doesn’t have root access):
- Use a third-party launcher such as Nova Launcher which can be taken from here; do not hesitate to choose any other option that you prefer using instead of this one;
- Make it your default launcher;
- Open Nova Settings;
- Now, hit the ‘Look and feel’ option;
- Under ‘Screen Orientation’, change the setting to ‘Auto-rotate’ or ‘Force Landscape’.
At this point, you have the Landscape Mode waiting to be used!
