Qualcomm Snapdragon To Power Android Wear Devices
Following the yesterdays’ announcement in what concerns the Android Wear, Qualcomm announced that they would provide the Snapdragon-based chipset for those of these devices. So far, it was unknown whether Qualcomm, some of the “involved” partners of Google’s wearable technology, will extend their involvements into becoming chipset suppliers.
As most of you already know, the new Android based platform by Google, called Android Wear represents the debut of smart watches. With this title, it is natural to expect the best components and parts. For that reason, Qualcomm, one of the biggest suppliers for Smartphone manufacturers in what concerns the Snapdragon chipset decided to be a part of this big project.
Unfortunately, it is still unknown which devices they will be powering. So far, what we know is that we will find the Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset on the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch devices. In the same time, it is still unknown, which exact chipsets will be used for the already mentioned devices.
However, what we might assume for sure that the manufacturer will not be needing its 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset for powering such as small device. The most likely is that we will see a Snapdragon 200 or 400-based chipset for the Android Wear devices.
In the case of the Android Wear, let me just clear a couple of things, for those of you who missed the big announcement. Yesterday, Google has announced their incoming plans to release a wearable platform for smart devices such as smart watches. Dubbed Android Wear, this Android-based platform has been designed exclusively to fit those tiny new devices that made their way over the past year and a half. If you ask me, this is a major step in what concerns the wearable technology, which will definitely increase the production of such devices.
Now, returning to the alleged Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset that is supposed to be powering these wearable devices, all these details are only rumors. Nothing is certain until official details will be released, therefore; we will have to wait some more time in order to have something sure.
