Use a Samsung Wireless Charger for Your Pixel 3
Last year, Apple launched the first iPhone models that do wireless charging out of the box. So it was not surprising to see that the new Google Pixel 3 phones also support wireless charging and Google has planned this in detail, also offering us the Pixel Stand which is designed specifically with the Pixel 3 and 3 XL models in mind. Yes, I can confirm that the Pixel Stand’s uniquely specialized features make it the best wireless charger for the Pixel 3, but it isn’t the cheapest one, that’s for sure.
Remember that Google has no intention to limit third-party devices. In fact, Google is currently working with several partners in the Made for Google program to get fast 10W chargers certified for use with Pixel 3 and Belkin just announced its 10W Pixel 3 charger, ready to launch in the coming weeks. That’s just the start of it, I am sure!
Even more, the new Pixel handset uses the widely adopted Qi standard, the same one Samsung uses, so why not using a Samsung wireless charger instead? Samsung’s Fast Charge Wireless Charging Convertible Stand is an amazing wireless charger with an adjustable surface that allows you to lay your phone flat or prop it up so that you can still see notifications with your Pixel 3 charging on a desk.
Of course, that adjustable surface is also padded and soft in order to avoid potentially scratching up your phone, and works well through even most thick cases.
Will a Samsung charger work as quickly as the Pixel Stand? Not really, but you won’t even notice the difference, I can assure you of that. Google’s Pixel Stand outputs up to 10W to the Pixel 3 through its included 18W USB-PD power adapter, while Samsung’s wireless chargers can output at a maximum of 9W. The problem is that for the moment all third-party wireless chargers are limited to the much slower 5W for this handset.
I know that this is not a nice move from Google. This difference is a major one indeed, but you can charge your device with up to 5 watt wireless charging power and that’s more than enough for most of us, don’t you think?
