Reply to Messages via Google Pixel 3 USB-C Earbuds
Google’s new Pixel 3 has a new accessory in the box: a pair of wired Pixel Bud-style earbuds, along with the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter for using legacy headphones. It’s actually the first time Google has bundled headphones with its Pixel phones and I am glad it did so.
Last year it offered only the dongle when headphones are a standard accessory for most phone makers. This is a part of the past now, so let’s focus on what truly matters. Do you know that you can easily reply to Messages via these Google Pixel 3 USB-C Earbuds?
The Pixel 3 USB-C earphones give you the chance reply to notifications via the earphones, without even pulling your smartphone out of your pocket or unlocking it. Using voice control, the handset lets you listen to notifications via your earphones. The procedure is quite simple, so let me show you how it’s done.
Enable the notifications being read out to you
To be able to listen to the received notifications, don’t hesitate to access Settings > Assistant Settings > Spoken Notifications. Now, just toggle the option On. Then, choose all the apps you want to get the spoken notifications from.
What happens when you get a notification?
When you receive a notification on your Pixel 3 XL, and you have your earphones on, you will hear the sound alert for a notification. Now, it is up to you to press and hold the Volume Up button in the inline remote and the Assistant reads out the notification to you.
For replying, simply press and hold the play/pause button again and speak out your reply. Your reply is recorded for the period you keep the button held. Then, press and hold the Volume Up button again to send it.
Speak to Google Assistant
These earbuds let you speak to Google Assistant simply by holding the middle button on the remote pressed. Let go of the button and Google Assistant speaks out the response to you. All of this can be achieved even without even looking at the screen.
You can also turn the feature off completely if you don’t like it, but at least give it a try first. You might end up being surprised.
