Connect your Galaxy S9 to Another Wi-Fi Direct Device
Wi-Fi Direct has been one of those features that don’t receive too much attention, but here I am to explain to you what it is and why you should choose to set it up. The Wi-Fi Direct feature is used to connect your Galaxy S9 smartphone with another Wi-Fi Direct device. And it’s not necessarily about connecting to the Internet, but it is more about sharing with other mobile devices.
Since Wi-Fi Direct allows the transfer of data between capable devices without the need of a Wireless Access Point (Hotspot), I am sure that this isn’t something that you want to miss on your Galaxy S9. Yes, I know that a better way to share files from your handset with a computer is by using the USB connection, yet this is another story.
Wi-Fi Direct can be seen as some sort of a second generation Wi-Fi, as it lets compatible devices which do not have their own internet connection, to establish a mutual connection with others that do. Thanks to Wi-Fi Direct, you have the chance to build up a wireless network between multiple devices and besides that, you can use Wi-Fi Direct in combination with Miracast to screencast onto another handset with a display.
And even if Wi-Fi Direct does not natively support file transfers, you can always choose to install a third party app for that. A great option is none other than Send Anywhere which lets you transfer any file type without altering the original. The key resides in a one-time 6-digit password for an easy file transfer and you will be good to go!
Have I convinced you to try it out? Just use the steps from this procedure and learn how to use Wi-Fi Direct to connect your Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone to another Wi-Fi Direct device:
Detailed Procedure:
- To turn on Wi-Fi Direct, you have to go into Settings -> Connections -> Wi-Fi;
- While here, waste no time and tap on the Wi-Fi Direct tab at the top;
- Your S9 smartphone will start scanning for devices that you can connect to;
- Let me remind you that Wi-Fi Direct is enabled the moment you have a stable internet connection, but don’t you imagine that Wi-Fi Direct is on all the time. Your Galaxy S9 handset only starts scanning for nearby devices to connect to when you tap on the Wi-Fi Direct tab.
