Disable Faster Recognition on Galaxy S10
I am constantly hearing that users have cracked the facial recognition screen lock feature in one of the world’s top phones and it doesn’t come as a surprise. I am talking about Samung’s Galaxy S10, but hey, we’ve all kind of anticipated such a thing for quite some time. Face Unlock is more about convenience and curiosity, not security. Smartphone manufacturers are doing their very best to optimize its security and they generally recommend you use a password/PIN/fingerprint for security.
Even if Samsung does offer a warning when setting up face unlock to ensure that users set their expectations accordingly, it’s still a method by which someone else could access your Galaxy phone. In other words, you should be alarmed about your phone’s security. A photo or a video can easily trick the system and I don’t know how this should make you fell.
Bottom line, Samsung’s face unlock feature on your smartphone is flawed in a huge way. And it’s not going to be as secure as what Apple uses in the near future, since the company needs to implement some changes to solve this. What advice could I give you for now? Keep using your fingerprint ID (with the adequate screen protector) or passcode. Or at least disable Faster Recognition.
This small change makes face recognition slower but much safer, so I feel pretty much OK with this compromise. You basically minimize the chances to see the software fooled by just showing a photo of the user. Increasing the speed of faster recognition lead us to enhance in speed and decrease in safety, rising the chance of video and pictures being wrongly recognized as the user’s face. - At first, you need to enter into Settings;
- Tap Biometrics and security;
- Then, you need to select Face Recognition;
- You can now disable Faster Recognition and keep on using Face Unlock on your handset.
