Android 4.4 KitKat Running on 2.5 % Devices in February
The latest distribution chart released by Google related to February for different versions of the Android operating system reveals the fact that Android KitKat is gaining more and more followers. In the same time, Jelly Bean version continues to dominate the market. According to data released on the official Android Developers’ webpage, Android’s latest firmware update gained a total of 0.7 percent from last month’s 1.8 percent. At this point, the version is running on more than 2.5 percent devices. On the other hand, Jelly Bean has now a total market share of 62 percent. This means a rise of 1.3 percent from the last month’s 60.7 percent.
As most analysts predicted, the rise was normal and expected, giving the fact that more and more of the non-Google mobile devices have started to run the latest Android version. The chart offers precise record of the usage of Android v.2.2 and higher. For this reason, Google’s distribution list was based on the data collected from devices that accessed the Google Play Store.
In the same time, regarding the older versions of Android, the Android 2.2 Froyo managed to gather only 1.2 percent of the whole share, which represents a 0.1 percent fall from the 1.3 percent in January. On the other hand, Android v2.3.3 up to v2.3.7 Gingerbread also recorded a 1 percent fall compared to the last month. In January, the respective versions recorded 20 percent of the total market share, and in February, they fell to 19 percent.
Android 3.2 Honeycomb remained on the same 0.1 percent position, the same as January while the Ice Cream Sandwich and namely the Android v4.0.3 and v4.0.4 versions have a 0.9 percent fall from the 16.2 percent recorded last month. In January, devices running Android Ice Cream Sandwich represent only 15.2 percent of the total Android devices.
Moreover, Google also provided a list of distribution numbers for the Open GL. The Open GL 2.0 continued its domination while recording only a small fall from 92.3 percent to 91.1 percent. The first Open GL version stayed on the same 0.1 percent market share. What is different with the Open GL operating system is the third version, which rose from 7.6 percent to 8.8 percent.
The more likely is that we will see a notable increase in what concerns the Android 4.4 KitKat version. New devices are being activated, devices that run the respective firmware. Considering the February rise compared to the January situation, it seems that KitKat will gather more and more followers.
