Dealing with OnePlus 5 Screen “Jelly” Effect While Scrolling
With the OnePlus 5 here for quite a long time, many people have this handset on their pocket and users start to get used to it. Throughout multiple forums discussions and complains, one thing has cropped up consistently, so it has to be true: I am talking about the so-called “jelly scrolling.”
Does content on your screen look funny while using the phone? If so, that’s pretty much your case too. Hundreds of users are reporting a weird scrolling issue where images on the screen seem to blur or turn to jelly while scrolling up or down a page. While some users claim that it’s most noticeable in the home screen, there are plenty of other owners who see it when scrolling through long pages in the browser or other apps.
In other words, users are saying things blur and act funny while scrolling down a page, yet the official statement from OnePlus on the situation is not at all promising. The company simply claims: “We’ve received feedback from a small number of users saying that at times they notice a subtle visual effect when scrolling. This is natural and there’s no variance in screens between devices.”
Therefore, it’s not a software or manufacturing defect, so there is no software update coming to fix this. There is though a potential explanation for what it happening – it seems that OnePlus inverted the display, and “fixed” this problem with the help of software.
Apparently, the OnePlus 5 uses the very same display as the OnePlus 3T, but the screen can’t be mounted like on the OnePlus 3T. And OnePlus didn’t order a new part for the handset, one that would not require screen inversion tricks, choosing to recycle the existing design.
There is no confirmation of that, but the company denies such a thing, yet we see that the issue is there. Sorry that there is not fix just yet. So, are you noticing any weird behavior in scrolling on your OnePlus 5? Let us know in the comments below,
