Enable Landscape Mode in Home Screen on your Galaxy S8

On large screen sizes devices like Samsung’s Galaxy S8, S9 and their Plus variants, it’s easier than ever to use the phone in landscape mode. The default orientation for your Galaxy S8 phone’s screen is portrait (vertical), but you have seen more than once how many apps will change to landscape orientation (widescreen) when you rotate the handset sideways.

However, why to only use your favorite apps in landscape when you can also use the home screen in landscape mode? A feature that has only been available on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus handset models so far has now been ported to your Galaxy S8 too by Samsung itself. To be more specific, the company has rolled out a new update for its Samsung Experience launcher which will enable you to easily rotate home screen on Galaxy S8.

You can therefore enable a landscape mode in the Home screen settings menu. Once the feature is enabled, it will rotate the home screen so that your launcher matches the orientation of the app being used. So, to enable landscape on home screen and app drawer screen too, you need to be on the latest version of the software.

So, you have to check whether or not a new update is waiting for you and once the latest Samsung Experience update has been installed, to enable landscape mode support, you will need to follow the below steps:

Detailed procedure:

  1. First of all, you need to open Settings;
  2. Under Settings, it’s time to select Display;
  3. After that, tap on Home screen;
  4. In Home Screen settings, there should be a Portrait mode only option there if the feature has gone live for you. Therefore, all you must do now is to tap on it to disable the portrait only mode that you had so far.

With this procedure completed, you have enabled landscape home screen. Do you want to see how and if it works? Then, try it out by going to the Home screen and holding the phone horizontally.
